The Dublin Spire, in the centre of O'Connell Street, is one hundred and twenty metres tall, making it by far the tallest structure in Dublin city centre. The Spire serves as a replacement for Nelson's Pillar - a statue of Horatio, Lord Nelson which was destroyed in a bombing by former IRA members in 1966.
