Brett visits Dublin

Brett visits Dublin. 20+ pubs in 4 days.  Guinness, Bulmers, Smithwicks, Carlsberg & Coors Light. Liverpool beats Man Utd 4-1. Ireland beats Scotland in the 6 Nations. Many games of Catan were played (final count: M4, B2, C2).

Skerries Mills

I took the €6.50 guided tour (just me and the guide as it's not quite tourist season here). Both mills can be powered by wind or water and were historically used for grinding oats, barley, wheat, etc... The grey stone mill was built in the late 1500s and the white mill (aka The Great Windmill of Skerries) in the late 1700s. The tops of both mills are tower-mills, where the top of the mill can be rotated to allow the blades to catch the wind (the grey mill's top sits on wooden castors and is turned by a hand lever from inside the mill; the white mill's top is turned by a tail pole that can be hooked to a tractor).

Kicking it in Skerries

I took the Irish Rail commuter train from Connolly station out to Drogheda and back, stopping to spend most of the day in Skerries. From the peninsula of "Red Island" you can see Colt Island, Shenick Island, St. Patrick's Island (housing 1,000 pairs of Cormorants + grey seals) and Rockabill Island (w/ a cool black and white lighthouse).
