Bonita Fishing on the Bay

Today I got the opportunity to go bonita fishing on the Chesapeake Bay with Darkwing, Gene and Hank. This type of fishing is more akin to hunting than to fishing. You 'sight cast', which means that one person stands on the tower of the boat and looks for bonitas and when one has been located, directs the boat driver over to it and then casts out to it (we used eels as bait). We caught a 39", 20 pounder which Gene spotted and hooked, I then reeled in and Darkwing netted. It was mad fun. On the bay, we saw a large pod of dolphins, 100s of blue crab, about two dozen brown rays, a jumping sharp-nosed shark, a giant loggerhead turtle, schools of menhaden and lots of other sealife.

Mmmmm, I love crab!

Tonight, Emily and I dined on Dungeness (my fav) and Snow Crab (MLE's fav) with lots of Old Bay. Thanks Farm Fresh!
