Neuschwanstein Castle, DE

Commissioned and built (but never fully completed) in 1892 for King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as an homage to Richard Wagner, this castle in southwest Bavaria was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle. It is magnificent. Emily and I had the opportunity to take the castle tour and see all of the finished rooms and it was amazing. The 'Hall of the Singers' and the small conservatory built into the false grotto were my favourites.

Munich, DE

I almost feel bad that of the two full days we spent in Munich - I spent so much of it happily eating, drinking and being merry in the world famous HofbrÀuhaus in city centre. It was totally worth it. Life is short :)

Daniel & Christina in Stuttgart, DE

We stopped over for the night in Stuttgart on our way to Munich and had the opportunity to meet up with Daniel and Christina (two of my former colleagues from the Google Dublin office).

Heidelberg, DE

Heidelberg is a really cool town located in a valley with the 'Neckar' river running right smack through the middle of it all. The people are super friendly, the food delicious and the experience was really enjoyable during the two days we spent here. Emily's father was stationed in Heidelberg many years ago and her parents were able to visit here before they came to visit us in Dublin in 2009.
