Westminster Abbey, UK

The final resting place of: Kings, Queens, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Charles Dickens, David Livingstone and so many others... The Coronation Chair was made on the orders of King Edward I in 1300–1 to enclose the Stone of Scone, which he had brought from Scotland in l296 and placed in the care of the Abbot of Westminster. Since 1308, all anointed sovereigns of England (until 1707) and Great Britain (after 1707) have been seated in this chair at the moment of their coronation, with the exception of Queen Mary I (who was crowned in a chair given to her by the Pope) and Mary II (who was crowned on a copy of the chair). The last occasion was the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953*.
